A sustainable hotel in harmony with nature:
the NILS am See
Live sustainably. Holiday sustainably. This guiding principle runs like a green thread through every part of our adults-only boutique hotel near Parndorf. Our hotel is located beside the Neusiedler See – Seewinkel National Park, a protected cultural landscape and a UNESCO World Heritage site. These unique natural surroundings have inspired the NILS am See to embrace an eco-conscious approach from the ground up. As a Change Maker Hotel, we’re committed to making a meaningful impact and actively shaping a more sustainable future for tourism.
100% renewable energy
Two air-source heat pumps and a rooftop photovoltaic system (65 kWp) cover a large portion of our energy needs. In addition, 18 geothermal boreholes reaching depths of up to 100 metres, along with our thermally activated building structure, ensure highly efficient energy use. At the NILS am See, our entire heat supply is 100% gas-free – we don’t even have a gas connection! Any electricity we don’t generate ourselves is sourced entirely from local renewable energy. Additionally, our boutique hotel features the largest built-in flue system in Austria.
Economical energy use
Thanks to innovative technology – developed in-house by our partner Sareho GmbH – the NILS am See’s lighting and building systems are both intelligently controlled. Adjustments are made automatically based on time of day, season, and actual usage to ensure energy is used as efficiently as possible.
Green roof and wooden façade
Our roof and wooden façade are planted with greenery to support the biodiversity of the surrounding natural landscape. On hot days, this natural layer also provides natural insulation against the sun.
Recycling
Wherever possible, we avoid single-use plastics and paper. Instead, we use recyclable materials throughout the hotel. One example: the lampshades in our rooms are made from recycled ocean plastic.
Local ingredients
The products you enjoy at our breakfast buffet and the ingredients in our dishes are sourced locally wherever possible – and the majority are organic. At our sustainable hotel, we work closely with regional partners to obtain fresh vegetables, fruit, fish, game, and other meats.
Utilisation of leftovers
Any food waste is sustainably and efficiently converted into biodiesel using a closed-loop tank system – an eco-conscious solution that also eliminates the need for energy-intensive refrigerated food waste storage.
Green mobility
Our sustainable hotel in Austria is easy to reach by train, thanks to the nearby Weiden am See railway station. What’s more, our entire vehicle fleet is 100% electric.
E-charging stations
In our on-site, 33-space covered parking garage, you’ll find 17 e-charging points for electric vehicles (one charging point for every two spaces, with infrastructure ready for full expansion).
E-bike hire
To support your sustainable holiday in Austria, we offer high-quality e-bikes with a range of up to 90 kilometres for hire – ready for you to explore the region with ease.
