Drop anchor and experience wine
As the evening sun casts a golden glow over vibrant green vines and coaxes a soft shimmer from the ripening grapes, a quiet calm settles over the vineyards around Lake Neusiedl. The day is done. There’s nothing left to do – except savour the moment.
Authentic wine enjoyment at Lake Neusiedl
Endless sunshine, rich soils, and the mild climate of Lake Neusiedl – the perfect conditions for full-flavoured wines to flourish in northern Burgenland. The best place to taste them? At the region’s traditional wine estates, renowned far beyond Austria’s borders. From bold reds to balanced whites and aromatic dessert wines, you’ll sample exquisite vintages straight from the winemakers’ cellars – and get a glimpse behind the scenes. And if you fancy pairing your tasting with a little movement, you can walk or cycle from the NILS am See through the scenic vineyards directly to some of the region’s most impressive wineries.
The highlight of the wine year:
the Martiniloben festival
When the vine leaves turn golden and only a few late grapes still cling to the branches, it’s time: the young wine is ready to be tasted. In northern Burgenland, this moment is celebrated with the traditional Martiniloben festival. Over two weekends in November, you can sample the new vintage at local wine festivals, on guided vineyard walks, and at tastings held right in the winemakers’ cellars.
